"To know nothing of our ancestry or from whence we came to have no
reverence for the precious memories of the past - is to ignore the
elements and influences which have made us what we are. - And who so
dead to sympathy and affection, to kindred and to country, that
would not preserve the records of his ancestors, the place of his
birth, the home of his childhood and the sacred spot where repose
the loved and last ones of earth."

Descendants of Johann Conrad

Generation No. 1

1. JOHANN CONRAD (1)was born Bet. 1720 - 1730, and died Abt. 1754.
He married JENNIE TAYLOR Bef. 1743, daughter of OCONOSTOTA and WOMEN ANI'-WA'YA. She was born Bet. 1726 - 1730.

Notes for JOHANN CONRAD:
Emmet Starr's Note A53; The Widow Jennie Taylor later married a Hollander named Conrad and emigrated to America, settling in the vicinity of the Cherokees.

More About JOHANN CONRAD:
Blood: Hollander

Notes for JENNIE TAYLOR:
The Brainerd Journal page 530; ...... Charles and his mother emigrated to America from Scotland. See additional notes in Thomas Taylor file, father Charles Thomas Fox Taylor.

Emmet Starr's A43:
"Tradition avers that Jennie Taylor, a Scotch woman married a member of the English aristocracy named Fox. That they had two sons and then separated, the father retaining the elder son, on whom the right of primogeniture would vest the estates and she kept the younger brother, who was thence forward known as Charles-Fox-Taylor. The widow (note Emmet Starr now said she is a widow), later married a Hollander named Conrad and emigrated to America, settling in the vicinity of the Cherokee. Charles -Fox-Taylor married Jennie Walker, a grand daughter of "The Ghi-ga-u," and his half brother (my interpertation of, "and his half brother, meaning the half-brother of Charles-Fox-Taylor); Hamilton Conrad married Onai, a full blood Cherokee woman of the Bird Clan. The descendants of Charles-Fox-Taylor were known as Taylors. Hamilton and Onai Conrad was the only one except a grandson of Terrepinhead who retained his full patronymic. Rattlinggourd and his descent were always known as Rattlinggourds. Youngwolf's generation were known by the family name of Wolf and Terrapinhead's children and descendants were known as Terrapins, with the exception of his youngest son, who although a full brother to the other children was known as Terrapins, with the exception of his youngest son, who although a full brother to the other children was known as Thomas Fox Conrad. Terrapinhead's only daughter, Jennie, married a half blood Spanish Cherokee whose only name was So-sa or Goose, but he became locally known as Dick Spaniard, on account of his extraction. Upon his enlistment in the Confederate service he gave the name So-sa and upon the adjutants query for a Chritian name, he said Johnson or as the Cherokees pronounced it, Jonson would do. He was killed in a skirmish at Tahlequah and Jennie named their posthumous son; John Johnson using the father's assumed Christian name for his surname".

Detachment Hair Conrad Departed Aug 23, 1838 Arrived Jan 17 1839 #Departed 729 #Arrived 654 #Births9 #Deaths 57 #Desertions 24 #Accessions 14

The first three detachments of Cherokee emigrations left by water in June 1838. These were the groups that left under military supervision, before the Cherokee asked for and were granted permission to supervise their own migration.

Twenty-eight hundred Cherokee were divided into three detachments, each accompanied by a military office, a corps of assistants and two physicians.

The first group with about 800 in the party departed June 6, with the other two detachments starting after the fifteenth of June. These three detachments traveled by water routes and are thought to have recorded a much higher rate of deaths and desertions. This would put the total displacement of Cherokee at about 15,949.

Bradley Co TN Attraction Southeast Tennessee Tourist Website Hair Conrad Cabin at Blythewood Farms.
In the early 1800s, the area was inhabited primarily by Cherokees, among them Tekahskeh, or Hair Conrad as he came to be known. Conrad, a man of means and leader of the first detachment of Cherokees from Rattlesnake Springs on the infamous Trail of Tears, built his cabin in the architectural style of white settlers during the early 1800s. The cabin, the oldest residential structure in Bradley County, is preserved on the 350-acre Blythewood Farm off Harrison Pike owned by Bess Neil.
The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Blythewood is a working farm, breeding championship show horses.
It is best to call for a tour of the farm and cabin so someone can be there to greet you. 433 Blythewood Road SW. 423-476-8942.
