JW begins to work on the Steamer OAKLAND during June 1913, in January 1914 her name is changed to F. M. WALLACE. The photo below was taken before the OAKLAND was owned by the Combine. Gary Imwalle wrote: "The towboat is the OAKLAND and she is towing model barges loaded with grain. The picture was taken between 1880 and 1901 when she was owned by the St. Louis & Mississippi Valley Transportation Co. You can see some of this name on the model barges. The little small cabin under the pilothouse is the clincher as to the identity of the boat, the OAKLAND was the only large towboat built that way." |
