The VALIANT was rebuilt in 1921 and named TRANSPORTER. This rebuild was one of JW's biggest job and an accomplishment he was very proud of. Read about his biggest "Draughting" job by clicking here April 1921. The two photos above show the TRANSPORTER nearing the end of her rebuild at Elizabeth Marine Ways, note the wheel has not yet been installed. JW wrote in his April 1921 journal entry that the John Eichaley Company was interested in purchasing the TRANSPORTER, the photo above shows the boat at an Eichaley dock. Ways Towboat Directory indicates a company named WaterTransport bought the boat but based upon JW's journal entry and this photo showing the boat at an Eichaley docks, this may indicate a connection between Eichaley and Water Transport. |
Gary Imwalle wrote: "The two pictures of the boat there at the bank had to have been taken in 1921 or 1922 when the boat was operated by the WaterTransport Co." Gary Imwalle wrote about the above photos: "The reason that the boat is "goin' nowhere in a hurry" is because the pitman arm is not attached to the paddlewheel crank. The wrist pin, on the end of the crank, which connects the pitman to the crank has evidently broken off." Gary wrote that the photo above was taken at Cincinnati, "that's the old C & O highway bridge that the boat is headed for". |
