Letter from Jane Murray, June 1, 1851

Jun 1 1851

Langholm

Dear brother and sister,

I write you this to let you know that we are all well but we have lost little Walter since you heard from us.  It is three weeks yesterday morning since he died after a very severe illness of a Water in the head.   The last day he spoke was the Tuesday morning and died on the Saturday morning and lived all that time without as much as a drop of could (cold) water but just wetting his mouth with a fether (?).  And among the last days that he spoke he said John Hotson was stopping long in America and wished to see him.  He was a very entising little boy.  Janet is still at Hawick and John is at Hawick working at the frame.  The stocking making is never begun at Langholm nor no appearance of ever being any more.  James is still working at the mill.  He is a very healthy boy.

Jane Murray
