| Family traditions state that when William and Anna married, it was against her parents wishes and she was ostracized from her family. One rumor says that William was a professional gambler and only came home long enough to get Anna pregnant before he was off again. Another rumor says that Anna got mad at William for something and threw his paycheck in the stove and he left, never to return. In later years, two of his sons went looking for their father but when they returned, they wouldn't say what they had found. That secret has remained to this day. The third rumor is that he was killed in a gunfight over a poker game and is buried somewhere in British Columbia, Canada. |

| When Anna and William married, it was against her parents wishes and as a result they disowned her. Family tradition says that she went to visit her family one time after that but it apparently was not a good visit as when she returned, she wouldn't speak of it again. She named one of her sons after her brother, Murney Morden. She was crippled as a child as the result of a pony and cart accident. She was a great one for practical jokes and loved hot peppers. In her later years she was plagued by a goiter. She baked bread and took in washing to feed her family when her husband was away and after he left the family. She followed her children, finally locating in Newberry, Luce Co, MI where she died. She is buried in her son Murney Berry's plot in the Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, MI. |
