Came from Southhampton, England and settled immediately in and around Ontario. His father was a nobleman in Wales. He owned all of the district of Morden, not just the land, all the houses, the people, everything. This was during the 1600s. The Mordens in England became very rich and powerful. The three otters on the shield (coat of arms) came from the West Indies Trading Co., which the Mordens owned the controlling interest in, that dealt largely in sea otters. A lot of Mordens went to the South Pacific exploring and whatnot. Morden in "Saxon" means Murderer. In France, the name would be Mortimer meaning killer. Enlisted 19 Jun 1776, Kings Royal Rangers of NY Paid taxes of 4 pounds in Mt. Bethel Twp, Northhampton Co, PA as a single man, paid a huge tax of 30 pounds in 1773 (FHL film o21680/2/4/5. Had a 70 acre tenant farm for 7 yrs on Mohawk River in Tyron Co, NY where eldest son, James was born. In service of Sir John (Johnson) in 1777. Settled at Bay of Quinte in 1777.
