WILMOT F. MORDEN was born in 1851 inWalkerton, Ontario and was the son of Alvey and Francis (Hutchinson) Mordon, both of whom were natives of Ontario, their ancestors being United Empire Loyalists, who followed the British flag into Canada at the conclusion of the British American Revolutionary War and settled at Bay of Quinte. They were among the early settlers of that district and followed farming pursuit, clearing the land from a forest country and putting it into a high state of cultivation. A portion of the family settled in Bruce County in 1849, who were also pioneers of that county, the ancestors emigrating from Wales to America about 1690, thus being among the oldest if not the oldest stock of truly American and Canadian settlers. The father, Alvey Morden, died in 1891, the mother outlived her husband by a good many years. Wilmot Morden was educated in Walkerton Public and Grammer schools. The family moving to Manitoba in 1874. Leaving Winnipeg, they came over the old Heading Buffalo Hunter's trail via Carman-Pomeroy thence south to where the town of Morden now is situated, the town being named after Alvey Morden, the father. For 20 years, Mr. Wilmot Morden served on the Morden School Board - up to the year 1902, acting as well as Secretary and Chairman part of this period. He was a Conservative in politics, but has declined political preferment. In 1879 Mr Morden married Miss Elizabeth Bwin Borthwick, daughter of Rev H. J. Borthwick, pioneer Presbyterian minister. Four Children were born to this union: Frank, Marion, Bessie and Edward. Mr. Morden was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and held membership in the St. Thomas Anglican Church.
