| Following his father's death, John, the eldest son, enlisted in the Kings Royal Regiment, serving until Feb 1784, when he returned home and persuaded his mother, Ann, to move to Canada. She wrote Robert Land but the uncertain mails of those days did not bring her an answer until 1786. Robert Land advised them to come to the head of Lake Ontario. The Mordens set out early in 1787 with 400 other Pennsylvanians arriving in Fort Niagara. John and brother Ralph, Jr., sought out Robert Land, inspected the Burlington Bay and Cootes Paradise areas with him and decided to settle on the slopes of the Flamborough mountain. SOURCE: West Flamboro Centennial Book. John registered Crown Grant 1798 for Lot 18, 1st Concession, Twp of Flamboro West. Original deposited in the London Public Library by Leslie R. Gray.
