Some historians believe that Zaccheus was the son of John and Sarah Reed Wilson who first settled in Cecil Co., Maryland, and moved to Bucks County and Cumberland Counties, in Pennsylvania. This connection had not been documented. Before 1753 Zaccheus and wife Frances and large family left Pennsylvania moving in a large wagon train to make a long journey to the northwest frontier of North Carolina. They moved southward down the Shenandoah Valley, jolted across the valley of Virginia into the Yadkin-Catawba rivers basin of west central North Carolina to a new home and a new hope - a distance of 435 miles. There was a Zaccheus Wilson with wife Frances that died in Oglethorpe, Georgia leaving a will dated 20 October, 1795. The will was recorded in Book "A", , 3 June 1796, Oglethorpe Georgia. He lists sons Zaccheus, Joseph, James, Isaac and William, and daughters Anney and Margret and wife Frances. Zaccheus was made executor of the estate. I have found no other reference to Zaccheus moving from Mecklenburg to Georgia. So, I'm doubtful if this is the same Zaccheus Wilson. He married Frances (Wilson). He was born circa 1706 at Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Zaccheus died in 1789 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. |
