                  Zaccheus Wilson Sr.1 (M)

                  Relationship=4th great-grandfather of Joe Frierson Grant.

                       Some historians believe that Zaccheus was the son of John and Sarah Reed Wilson who first settled in Cecil Co., Maryland, and moved to Bucks County and Cumberland Counties, in Pennsylvania. This connection had not been documented.
                  Before 1753 Zaccheus and wife Frances and large family left Pennsylvania moving in a large wagon train to make a long journey to the northwest frontier of North Carolina. They moved southward down the Shenandoah Valley, jolted across the valley of Virginia into the Yadkin-Catawba rivers basin of west central North Carolina to a new home and a new hope - a distance of 435 miles.
                  There was a Zaccheus Wilson with wife Frances that died in Oglethorpe, Georgia leaving a will dated 20 October, 1795. The will was recorded in Book "A", , 3 June 1796, Oglethorpe Georgia. He lists sons Zaccheus, Joseph, James, Isaac and William, and daughters Anney and Margret and wife Frances. Zaccheus was made executor of the estate. I have found no other reference to Zaccheus moving from Mecklenburg to Georgia. So, I'm doubtful if this is the same Zaccheus Wilson. He married Frances (Wilson). He was born circa 1706 at Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Zaccheus died in 1789 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

                             He had a love for mathematical studies and became one of the best surveyors of his day. He was a Captain in the Revolutionary War; signed the Declaration of Independence of Mecklenburg which preceded the American one and whose context was used at Philadelphia. After his wife's death in 1796, he came to Sumner County, Tennessee and settled one mile northeast of Gallatin. He married Mrs. Elizabeth (Conger) Ross.2 He was born circa 1733. Zaccheus Wilson II. was the son of Zaccheus Wilson Sr. and Frances (Wilson). Zaccheus died circa 1824.

His wife Nancy returned to Tennessee and remarried. I think that he has this Zaccheus mixed up with Zaccheus son of Zaccheus.1
