     Sarah E. Suter was born on 10 January 1820 at Kentucky.1,2 She married Elisha E. Lawson, son of Joshua Lawson and Talitha (?), on 23 July 1840 at She is listed as Lally Suter, Scott County, Illinois.3 As of 23 July 1840,her married name was Lawson. Sarah E. Suter and Elisha E. Lawson appeared in the census of 14 October 1850 at Morgan County, Illinois.2 Sarah E. Suter and Elisha E. Lawson appeared in the census of 5 July 1860 at Winchester, Scott County, Illinois.4 Sarah E. Suter and Elisha E. Lawson appeared in the census of 16 July 1870 at House #17, Family #37, Winchester Post Office, Scott County, Illinois.5 Sarah E. Suter appeared in the census of 15 June 1880 at Township Fourteen, Scott County, Illinois.6 She appeared in the census of 20 June 1900 in the household of James H.     LAWSON

    Elisha Lawson, for many years a resident of this city, passed away at 3:50 o'clock Saturday morning at the residence of Mrs. Elizabeth Lott, 838 North Main street, at the home of whom he has lived for the past twenty-three years. He had been sick for several weeks, suffering from an internal cancer.

    Mr. Lawson was born June 8, 1821, in Montgomery, , Tennessee. When 15 years of age, he moved with his parents to Missouri and only a few years later come to Illinois and settled in Scott County. Mr. Lawson was among the number that went on the search for gold in the fields of California in 1849, remaining there for about three years. He accumulated a handsome sum, which he immediately invested in land and began the business of trading in live stock. The deceased was well known in this city and in the county, where he had many friends. He was not a member of any church, although he was an attendant for many years. In politics he was a Republican.

    His wife, Sarah E. Lawson, preceded him in death five years ago this August. He was the father of two children, Mrs. Annie Landreth, who died four years ago, and Samuel Lawson, who resides in this city. He is survived also by an adopted son, Henry A. Sutter, who lives on the old Lawson homestead in Scott County; also by one brother, Robert Lawson of Portland, Oregon; by ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the residence of Mrs. Lott, 838 North Main street at 11 o'clock Monday morning in charge of Rev. J.V. Whiting, pastor of the First Baptist church. Interment will be made in Diamond Grove Cemetery.
