    She was born in Rochester on Feb. 4, 1910, the daughter of William and Bessie Drone Coontz. She married Ralph Harford in 1930 in Springfield. He died in 1970. Mrs. Harford was a 50-year member and past matron of Eastern Star Chapter No. 746 in Rochester. She was a member of Southern View Chapel.

    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Janet) Phelps of Malvern, Pa; one son, William R. Harford of Chesterfield, Mo.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Delores) Eggleston of Riverton, Mrs. William (Verna) Brunk of Pawnee, and Mrs. Jack W. (June) Golby of Rochester; one brother, William A. Coontz Jr. of Mount Auburn; several nieces and nephews.

    Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary E. Gilley and Rev. E.R. Hellyer officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

    Janet Lee Phelps

    Janet Lee Phelps, 69, of Dataw Island, S.C., died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Springfield, Illinois, a daughter of the late Ralph Milton and Virginia Coontz Harford. She grew up in the community of Southern View and graduated from Springfield High School in 1959. She attended Patricia Stevens modeling school in Chicago where she met her husband. She had a varied career as a model, office manager for Rubensteins, raising two children, fund raising for Paoli Memorial Hospital and starting her own successful interior decorating company - Treasures from the Heart. She was creative, engaging in making clothes, painting, stenciling, quilting, directing church plays, and interior design. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and looked forward to seeing them whenever she could. She maintained a positive attitude until the end. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Norman L. Phelps of Dataw Island, SC; children Seth M. Phelps of Jacksonville, FL and Scott J. Phelps of Berwyn, PA, her daughter-in-law Gina Phelps, grandchildren Zachary and Victoria, and brother and sister-in-law William R. and Patricia Harford of Chesterfield, MO. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 9:30-11:00 at The Baptist Church of Beaufort with a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall for family and out of town guests. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Janet's name to CBM ( www.cbmus.org), Living Beyond Breast Cancer ( www.lbbc.org), or Beaufort Baptist Church's Youth Summer Mission Fund ( www.bcob.org) .
