John England

Introduction
Yassas! My name is John England although I was born John Dumas as I was named after my father, John Kostas Dumas. I never knew him and because of my curiosity, this site shows the results of my genealogy research that I started in earnest during the mid 1990’s. Armed with very little information, but later thankfully the Internet and my local library, I have been able to piece together a lot about my ancestors that I never knew existed. My mother’s side (Blackstone) has been researched extensively already (all the way back to before 1000 AD) so these pages will focus more on my paternal lineage, what I now understand as the Greek side of my family. PS, the family name is not related to the traditional Dumas line from France or Spain, it actually was Doumas (sometimes spelled as Dounis or Dunis.)

The map above shows two of the islands I have been able to trace my ancestors back to: Kalymnos in the Dodecanese Islands in the Southeast and Chios in the Northern Aegean Islands, both right off the coast of modern day Turkey.

For fellow genealogists, family and cousins I have not met yet who may be starting their own quests, please feel free to contact me. Here are the surnames I am still researching: Doumas (or Dounis, Dunis), Theios, Eglezos, Kostantinou, Panagis, Klimis and Gianeskis. The geographic areas of concern are Tarpon Springs, Fort Pierce and Dunnellon areas in Florida, Asheville, North Carolina and Augusta, Georgia in the United States and in Europe, Chios and Kalymnos in Greece and Vourla and Smyrna (now known as Urla and Izmir respectively) in Turkey as well as Brussels, Belgium. Please feel free to contact me if you have any information you would like to share or if you have any questions. Efcharisto!
