His Descendants Who Settled in NJ and PA

   The backbone of this genealogical study is the work done 60 years ago:  Elizabeth Weir McPherson, THE HOLCOMBES NATION BUILDERS (Self Publ: 1947); Republished by Higginson and online at Heritage Quest.  It has been augmented, and in a few cases corrected, from numerous sources and contributors.  This is an ongoing study and a fully searchable database is online as referenced on the homepage.

            While the English ancestry of this line is limited to John who married Sarah Scott, the will of Thomas Holme who migrated to Pennsylvania in early Penn days, listed daughter Sarah who stayed in England. Thomas Holme, by this will dated Dec 10, 1694, left a portion of his estate "to the children of Richard Holcombe by his daughter Sarah."  Whether there is a relation or not, it shows another early Holcombe connection to Quaker Pennsylvania that might be a research lead.

            3.      ii    Juliann HOLCOMBE born May  4 1678, prob Tiverton, Devonshire England,  Juliann came to America with her family.

            4.      iii   John B. HOLCOMBE born May 29 1680, died bef 1682.

        +  6.      v    Jacob HOLCOMBE born Jul  3 1684, Tiverton, Devonshire, England,[i] married abt 1712, in announced intention on Mar 6, 1712, Other: at Falls's Meeting, Buckingham, Bucks Co,[ii] Mary WOOLRIDGE , died Jan 30 1761, Philadelphia County PA.[iii]  Jacob died Jun 30 1748, Bucks County PA,[iv] buried: Friend's Burying Grd, Lahaska, Bucks PA,  one son Thomas and seven daughters.  Jacob purchased lands on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River, opposite his brother John's lands.  He served as a coexecutor of John's will and was very involved in the early Friends Meetings and served as one of the first ministers at Buckingham.  (Davis, p. 272) states Jacob took up 1200 acres in Solebury and later received a patent on April 12, 1712 for 500 acres.  He was one of the heads of the Buckingham meeting. Jacob also served on a jury to lay out a road to Philadelphia. (Davis, Vol II, p. 248) Mary: Mary's will, signed January 23, 1761, codicil January 26, 1761, mentions most of her daughters, the son having predeceased her.  One of the witnesses was a Samuel Hurford, probably a step-grandson.
