War of 1812 Soldiers

Sion Smith PVT 2nd Georgia REG'T (Jenkins), Georgia Volunteers

(The CD that I have is not a complete listing, as there are others in
my lines that do not show up on the CD but who are clearly on the muster
rolls, some of whom received pensions who are not listed on the CD).

If one could find a pension file for the ancestors we are seeking info
on, might contain additional clues, etc.
The library in Anniston, Alabama has the complete collection of Civil
War pension files for soldiers who filed for pensions who resided in the
state of Alabama at the time they or their widows filed for and/or
received pensions. I don';t know if they have the War of 1812 records,
and a few years ago, they were working on obtaining the Rev. War pension
applications for Alabama soldiers.

If the above Sion Smith is the same one who married Delilah, wondered if
she received a pension based on his War of 1812 service? If she did,
they usually had to give a date and place of marriage, and had to say if
they were married previously, to whom, when that person died, etc.
Same thing for Civil War pension applications for the widows, had to
give same kinds of info, including the names of the deceased soldiers
previous wives, their names, when they died, where they were buried,
etc. These pension applications
often had affidavits written by family members, attesting to what was
being said as true, etc. I have not been so lucky in finding these on
my Ashley relatives, but have found them in other family lines, and
these records have proven invaluable in providing additional clues, etc.
