(I thought the above one was interesting, as this is from a transcribed
book and don't know if the spelling or transcription might be an error
or not. There is at least one in Abbeville County, SC Will/Bonds book
that has a transcription error in a Will for an ASHLEY that is
mis-spelled as ANSLEY so after I learned of this, starting looking at
other spellings and at least considering them, or saving for future
reference.)

I thought that the COX connection to the LEIGH families was
interesting, especially the Taliaferro COX and Honor Cox marriage.
There is a Will in Edgefield County, SC for a William Cox which
mentions his father Taliaferro Cox and also mentions a Charles Ashley in
that Will, which seems interesting, and might be useful info down the
road. That Will was ca 1790's for Edgefield County, SC. Also thought
the name Delilah Cox was interesting and wondered if your Delilah who
married William Ashley; and also the Sion SMITH name was interesting.
May just be coincidental, but maybe worth further research if you dont
know Delilah's maiden name yet, etc. Just some ideas to think about,
and then again, may not turn out to be anything.

And on to South Carolina Records and Reference CD, not too much on the
Leigh or Lay families, but here is what was found:

1786 Prince Frederick's, SC Tax Returns
Thomas Leigh
Samuel Leigh
David Leigh
Needom Leigh

1810 Barnwell County, SC census index shows a George Leigh
1820 Edgefield County, SC census index shows a James Leigh
1820 Kershaw County, SC census index shows a David G. Leigh

On the Ancestry.Com web site, there is a Joseph McDuffy Criswell b.
ca 1822 married to Caroline Susan Harrison shown and the submittor of
the info has the
email address [email protected]
There wasn't much else shown on this Joseph McDuffy Criswell, doesn't
say where he was born, who his parents or siblings or children were, but
in case you haven't already seen it, thought I would pass it on.

I do have the census books for 1850 and 1860 Coweta County, GA if you
are interested in further info on that Anselm B. Leigh family, who were
in those census's.
Let me know.
