Daniel Ashley in Greene Co. AL in 1860

Subj: Daniel Ashley in Greene Co. AL in 1860

...
Today I went to the Genealogy Center at the library and
discovered from the 1860 Federal Census that my "Daniel Ashley" and
his wife and children were living in Greene County, (Mt Hebron pr.) AL
in 1860. Mt Hebron is about fifteen miles from Forkland, where Moses
and Nancy Lay lived in 1860. Daniel's occupation on the census was
listed as "overseer." Previously, I had not looked for Daniel on the
1860 census because I assumed that he was living in Sumter County.
They were living in Greene County in 1854, because my "Samuel" was
born there in 1854. This further reinforces my conviction that Daniel
was the son of William and Delila. Where ever one finds Delila and
her sons, one finds Daniel. I find it puzzling that neither Moses
nor Daniel are listed on the 1870 census. Could it be that they moved
their families to other states--or were they both missed by the census
takers? I did not have time today, but when I go back to the
Genealogy Center, I am going to look for Daniel on the 1880 census.
