               *WM. RILEY
                ASHLEY*
                b. 1847 AL
Observations:
  1. That Wm. (m. Delila) is a son of Wm. b.1757 is unproven but highly probable (in my view)
  2. That Daniel b.1820 is a son of Wm. (m. Delila) is unproven but highly probable (in my view)
  3. The son of Wm.& Delila was born c1812 in Abbeville District SC (or so I believe).
  4. The son of Daniel was born 1847 in Sumter Co. AL (has common boundary with MS) in 1847, probably named for his uncle, after all contact with the Abbeville Ashleys appears to have ended.
  5. The son of Roberson & Nettie was born in 1862 in Cherokee Co. (has common boundary with GA) more than 20 years after any known contact with descendents of Wm. & Delila.
  6. This naming pattern is one of the factors supporting the probabilities mentioned above.

Puzzles:

  1. How many of the other Williams might also have been named William Riley Ashley?
  2. Which of the spouses might have been a Riley?
  3. Who were each of these "William Riley Ashleys" named for, respectively?
