JOHN PHILIP WHITE
John White was known as "the Nailer" because he had a blacksmith shop on the Snake River.  According to the 1828 and 1834 land surveys, he owned 105 acres in what later became Ocean Grove, NJ.

His descendants (particularly his grandsons John Augustus White and Gilbert Marion White, Jr.) attempted a suit on behalf of the White family in the early 1900's to re-possess the property from the Ocean Grove Campmeeting Association, but the outcome is unknown although apparently not successful.  See newspaper clippings for more detailed information about the suit and Ocean Grove research for background on the Campmeeting Association.
