The Murder of Pleasant S. Johnson Pleasant, son of James Johnson, b. 1759 of Wayne County, was killed in Whitley County about 1825/1826. A trial was conducted which convicted several persons--the court record is unclear as to why or how he was killed. Are there any family histories that will add to the story?
Care To Share Your Knowledge??
How many lines of Johnsons and Johnstons were there in Wayne Co in the pioneer days? Could they have possibly all been related? We know the birth location of only four of the early newcomers and they are from the same state. James, b. 1759, James, b. 1757, William, and Reuben were all from Virginia. Some, perhaps all, were of Scottish lineage. The "t" in the last name was used frequently and interchangeably. For example, the name is spelled with a "t" in two locations and without it in one location on my gggrandfather's marriage bond.
If you have information about our Johnson ancestors in Wayne/Pulaski Counties that you would like to post on this site, please forward to me in a format that I can use to paste it to the web page. (Sorry, we are unable to use Johnson information outside of the Cumberland River region. There are just too many Johnsons and it is beyound the scope of this web page.)
As we all know, a minor bit of information may be the big breakthrough that someone else is looking for. We'll be glad to add your name as a reference point in researching a particular name or line. If we make this site a focal point for early Johnson reseach in the Wayne/Pulaski County area, perhaps we can find all of those missing links. They can't hide from us forever!
