***You are now 4 generations before the current children***
Marguerite Elise was born 27th December 1877 at 9 Chesworth St, West Derby, with father's occupation accountant.
She went on to huge success as a private secretary, touring Europe at
the expense of her company.
With the political aspirations of her boss being realised, her career
took her to be secretary to the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Maurice Jenks.
She died tragically, 16 Oct 1942. Whilst minding a flat for
absent friends, she slipped on the stairs, breaking her neck. She was
not discovered for some days, by which time she was dead. The accident was reported in the Ilford Recorder (Essex) on 27 October 1942.
To quote from a letter by Amy Mates in Uxbridge to her mother Doris in Seattle 6 Dec 1942:
"Doubtless you have heard of the accident to poor Auntie Marguerite. I just had the news when I came back from a 48 [48-hr leave from duty at Uxbridge RAF station, where she monitored enemy and friendly aircraft over her sector] with [mother-in-law] Mrs Mates at Woodstock. Grandma Mary said that shes written two letters to you about it so hope you got them OK. She enclosed three of Uncle Freds letters which I must send back to her immediately. Ill re-read them and copy out the bits for you. It came as quite a shock to me and I was very sorry not to have seen her again.
Thankfully the fall she had killed her instantly but altogether it was very tragic. I had written to her only a few days ago but it was too late. I feel rather awful that I had not written before or made arrangements to see her before, as I might well have done. The three letters from Uncle Fred are remarkable for a man of 78.
[John Arthur Frederick dErne was born in 1864, so those dates match.]
He and his sons were at the funeral (Oct 19) and also at the inquest."
