Vivian Arthur Dernee No. 913 A.I.F. Private, 3rd Battalion

was one of the "ANZACs", who survived the slaughter at Gallipoli in 1914,

and who we remember each year on Anzac Day, 25th April.

His Attestation Paper for Persons Enlisted for Service Abroad showed he was born Middlesex, was single, his occupation: horse driver.

His father: Durnee J Frederick, Admiralty, London

The medical: Height 5' 4", Weight 116 lbs, Chest 33.5", fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair.

ANZAC Gallipoli, Lone Pine, Alexandria, Pozieres (July 1916), Rouen (Sept 1916), Ypres (most of 1917), Somme Valley, Flers, Hermies, Bullecourt, Broodseinde, Paschendale, Hazebrouck, Chuignes, Hargicourt, Amiens (Aug 1918).

�After the withdrawal from Gallipoli, the battalion returned to Egypt. In March 1916, it sailed for France and the Western Front. From then until 1918 the battalion took part in operations against the German Army, principally in the Somme Valley in France and around Ypres in Belgium.� source: Australian War Museum
