I REMEMBER
Short biography of James Thomas Jones
I was born August 23rd. 1927 in an old house that was owned by John Huckabee. It was
about a half-mile north of Union road. After you pass the Union Community Building
going to the west you come to the break of a hill. Just as you come to the break there was
at one time a wagon road that turned north. It went to an old house that John Huckabee
owned.
I don't know how many members of the Jones family lived in the house at various times. I
know my dads brother George lived there when he moved to Kilgore, Texas. His son
Myron lived there after he and Delma Smith were married. I think Hiram might have lived
there a while. I also think a couple of my dads sisters lived there a time or two.
When I was born most women didn't go to a hospital. So I therefore was born at home.
Some of the women of the area would come to the house and help with the birth.
The lady that come to our home and was the only lady there to help was Aunt Stella Rink.
Her birthday was also on August the 23rd. She was 39 years old the day I was born. She
never let me forget that she gave me my first bath. She therefore was always a very special
person to me.
I never lived more than about 2 miles from that old Huckabee place until I left for the
military service in 1945.
After leaving the Military I returned to De Queen and graduated from De Queen High
School in 1948. Later on I managfed to graduate from college with a BS Degree. Everyone said I didn't need to go to college to get a B.S. Degree.
