Andrew Harvie was a farmer and according to a letter written in 1819 by his father to a nephew in Aryshire in Scotland had an involvement in gypsum mining . It is said he was a sometimes school trustee and  poet 1. He inherited Roseway Farm at Avondale from his father John Harvie who died ca. 1822. In 1841 he sold the homestead section to his youngest son Daniel Lockhart and the balance to another son James. However a £600 mortgage over the property he had entered into in 1827 was never discharged and following the death of Daniel ca. 1851 from injuries he received in an accident in a part-owned gypsum mine the mortgagee foreclosed and that resulted in a Chancery Court ordered auction in 1854 at which son James purchased the property. A similar mortgagee foreclosure and auction took place in 1855, in respect of lands Andrew had sold to five of his six sons in 1831 that had been mortgaged by his late father John Harvie about 1819 and the mortgage never discharged. Again son James Harvie purchased the property at the auction. There is no record of the probate of a will following Andrew's 1861 death.
Andrew's wife Rebecca Lockhart was the third born in a family of eleven children. Her father John Lockhart was a ship's pilot who was born in Connecticut. He was the son of planter James Lockhart who was granted 500 acres in Horton Township in Nova Scotia in May 1761. He subsequently moved to Newport Township 6. Her mother Abigail Trask was the daughter of Elias Trask who was presumably also a planter as his last known child was born in Massachusetts in 1753 and he died in 1780 in Chebogue in Nova Scotia.
