Living with wife, Betsy, and 6 children. 1870 CENSUS, Bunker Hill, Macoupin, IL: 52 years, born ENG, parents foreign born, US citizen, farmer, $5,000. Living with wife, daughter (Harriet) and a farm laborer. 1880 CENSUS, Bunker Hill, Macoupin, IL, ED 107: "EDDINGTON", 62 years, born ENG, parents born ENG, widower. Joseph has a black female housekeeper living with him. From Illinois Land Owners: Joseph purchased a forty acre parcel, SWNE, Section 14, Twp 7, Range West 9, on 20 Jan 1844. Obituary, Bunker Hill Gazette, 11 December 1890: "Died on Sunday last, Joseph EDDINGTON at his residence West of town. He was one of the old settlers, coming from England in the 1840's. He was a Miller in the old mill which was destroyed by fire in 1846. He had been a very successful farmer, and had accumulated valuable property. The funeral was from the Congregational Church, Tuesday afternoon. Reverend Slater conducted the services." Letter from S. O. EDDINGTON II, February 17,1990: "EDDINGTON" was spelled "EDINGTON" while the
family was in England.
From Fae LUMSDEN: Joseph EDDINGTON arrived on the sailing ship Kensington, which left Liverpool in June 1841. It arrived in New York in August after a voyage of forty-two days. Joseph traveled with his younger brother, Samuel. He was 24 years of age, and Samuel was 22 years of age at the time." Joseph married
