1860 CENSUS, Woodburn, Macoupin IL: 43 years, born ENG, farmer, $5,500, $2,500. Living with wife, Betsy, and 6 children.
1870 CENSUS, Bunker Hill, Macoupin, IL: 52 years, born ENG, parents foreign born, US citizen, farmer, $5,000. Living with wife, daughter (Harriet) and a farm laborer.
1880 CENSUS, Bunker Hill, Macoupin, IL, ED 107: "EDDINGTON", 62 years, born ENG, parents born ENG, widower. Joseph has a black female housekeeper living with him.

From Illinois Land Owners: Joseph purchased a forty acre parcel, SWNE, Section 14, Twp 7, Range West 9, on 20 Jan 1844. He paid $1.25 per acre and was a resident of Macoupin County at that time.

Obituary, Bunker Hill Gazette, 11 December 1890: "Died on Sunday last, Joseph EDDINGTON at his residence West of town. He was one of the old settlers, coming from England in the 1840's. He was a Miller in the old mill which was destroyed by fire in 1846. He had been a very successful farmer, and had accumulated valuable property. The funeral was from the Congregational Church, Tuesday afternoon. Reverend Slater conducted the services."

Letter from S. O. EDDINGTON II, February 17,1990: "EDDINGTON" was spelled "EDINGTON" while the family was in England.
From S, O, EDDINGTON II, 1995: Joseph had a two hundred fifty-seven acre farm in Section 13 (Brighton Twp) and Section 18 (Bunker Hill Twp.) His home was about one mile west of Woodburn, and according to Stan, was adjacent to to the Woodburn Cemetery property. Ten EDDINGTON families came from Mizzlezoy, England between 1840 and 1851, with the first arriving in November 1840.
From S.O. Eddington II, June 1997 during visit by J. Fitch: "Joseph was saving money to buy property and buried it in his basement for safe-keeping. When he went to dig it up 2 years later, it wasn't there. He got friends to help him dig up the dirt and found some shredded money along with some whole bills, Pack rats had chewed it and carried it off into their tunnels! He only recovered about $160 of his $280.

From Fae LUMSDEN: Joseph EDDINGTON arrived on the sailing ship Kensington, which left Liverpool in June 1841. It arrived in New York in August after a voyage of forty-two days. Joseph traveled with his younger brother, Samuel. He was 24 years of age, and Samuel was 22 years of age at the time."

1870 CENSUS, Bunker Hill, Macoupin, IL: "Elizabeth", 50 years, born England, parents foreign born. Living with spouse, Joseph EDDINGTON, daughter, and a farm helper.

From Fae LUMSDEN: Baptism, LDS film No. 1526121, Item 23; Parish Church of Woolavington, England; Bishop's Transcripts, 1605-1848. Charles SOMERS is listed as a shoemaker. The baptism was performed by T. L. Jacob, Vicar.
Also have 7 September 1819 Baptism for Elizabeth.
