1860 CENSUS, Parowan, Iron, UT: "James McGUFFY", 46 years, born ENG, farmer, $500, $800. Living with wife, Isabella and 2 children (Joseph and Mary A.) 1870 CENSUS, Hiko, Lincoln, NV: "James McGUFFY", 56 years, born ENG, retail grocer, $1,000, $2,000, cannot read or write. Living with wife, Isabella, son (Joseph); daughter-in-law (Elleanor); and daughter (Alice). 1880 CENSUS, Ward 8, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, UT: "James McGUFFIE", 65 years, born ENG, parents born ENG, retail merchant. Living with wife, Isabella and grandson (James McGUFFIE). 1900 CENSUS, Ward 5, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, UT, ED 50: "James McGUFFIE", born Jul 1815, 84 years, born ENG, parents born ENG, married 48 years, came to US in 1850. Living with wife, Isabella; nephew (Joseph); niece-in-law (Elinor). Since Joseph McGUFFIE is the only male with that surname associated with James McGUFFIE and his wife, Isabella, I believe he is actually their son (not nephew) and the father of young James McGUFFIE (who is listed on the 1880 CENSUS living with his grandparents.) LDS Living: Dublin, The Emerald Isle; "After helping the Saints in Liverpool, England, Elder John Taylor traveled across the Irish Sea to Newry to spread the gospel and help recent English converts who had moved to Ireland. Elder Taylor was accompanied by James McGUFFIE and William Black, who had recently converted, and an investigator, Thomas Tate. Elder Taylor gave a sermon on July 18, 1840 in Newry to six hundred people, few of whom returned the next evening. James McGUFFIE stayed in Newry and eventually baptized many members of the Church." (This may be another James McGUFFIE.) From Susan CREE: James McGUFFIE and his wife, Margaret, emigrated to the US aboard the Erin's Queen in 1848. They arrived in New Orleans and went by steamboat to Saint Louis, MO. Margaret died at Saint Louis, in June 1849. In early 1850 James "and 3 others" were members of a Mormon wagon train which arrived in Salt Lake City, UT, in August 1850. Two daughters remained in MO, so the "3 others" seem to refer to James' three sons (James, John and Joseph). James married
