A Member In 1774 Of The Committee Of Safety For Spotsylvania County And A Colonel In The Revolutionary Army.

The family came originally from Virginia; it is thought from Spottsylvania County, where a large collection of the name was settled before the Revolution. George Stubblefield, who died in that county in 1751, and his wife Catherine Beverly, seem, from an examination of the County records, to have been the ancestors of a large part of the family in Spottsylvania. Amoung other children of George Stubblefield, Sr. were George Stubblefield, Jr., a member in 1774 of the Committee of Safety for Spottsylvania County and a Colonel in the Revolutionary Army; Beverly Stubblefield, a Captain of the Revolution; and Robert.
