A Familiar Scene in Dallas in 1875

A decade before the Dallas News was started, this was a familiar scene in Dallas, looking northward over Main street from a point between Jefferson and Market. The building in the foreground was occupied by W. T. Clark, wholesale grocer of the day, and by a lager beer hall. In the background may be seen the homes and churches of the then small village. This particular area is now part of the wholesaling, warehousing and manufacturing district of lower North Dallas. This picture was made by Thomas H. Johnson, a pioneer photographer of the city.
