ARREST MAN ON
BIGAMY CHARGE
______
Father of Dallas
Bride Says He Has
Learned That New Son-in-Law
Was Already Married.
L. Copeland,
a white man, was arrested by Deputy Constable J. S. Cornwell
and lodged in the county jail this monring on a charge of bigamy.
The affidavit against the prisoner was made out by S. H. Morgan,
who says that he is the father of Lou Alice Morgan, to whom Copeland
was married a few days ago. Mr. Morgan says that he has just
learned that Copeland was married to a Miss Alma Wilson in Van
Zandt county in 1904. It seems that the pair lived together for
about eleven months when the Van Zandt county woman brought a
suit for divorce.
Copeland waived his rights in the
suit and claims that he thought that the divorce had been granted.
Mr. Morgan says he has learned that the decree was not granted.
The case will come up for a preliminary
hearing before Justice of the Peace T. A. Work, within the next
few days.

TICHENOR CASE
IS DISPOSED OF
_______
FIGHT OVER POSSESSION
OF TWO
CHILDREN ENDS -- FATHER
AWARDED CHILDREN.
________
BEGAN IN NEW JERSEY
_______
Legal Complications
Arose When Wo-
man Brought Children to Dallas
and Then Married An-
other Man.
When the
case of William H. Tichenor versus Mrs. Harry M. Flournoy,
formerly Mrs. Tichenor, involving the custody of two minor children,
Howard, ten years of age, and Norman, aged eight years, was called
for further consideration in the Sixty-Eighth district court
yesterday morning, the court stated that he would not render
his decision until 2 o'clock in the afternoon. When the matter
came up in the afternoon, there was a change of front on the
part of the contending parties. For instance, the attorneys for
Mr. Tichenor appeared and filed a motion to set aside the judgment
of the court rendered Saturday, wherein he was granted a new
trial in the divorce proceedings, and further prayed that the
court dismiss said motion, the effect of which would be, if sustained,
to validate the decree of divorce rendered Mrs. Tichenor on September
6, last, and place same beyond any possible question hereafter.
The attorneys for Mr. Tichenor
also filed another paper, in which the only relief they asked
for was a change of the custody of the children from the mother
to the father. Judge Roberts took both propositions under advisement
until 3:30 o'clock, when he promptly granted both applications
of Mr. Tichenor, and dismissed the attack upon the divorce, and
gave the custody of the two children to the father, under the
exact terms of the decree rendered by the court of chancery in
New Jersey, which permits the mother to visit them at all reasonable
hours and times, which decree, can at any time on application
of either party, be changed, for the best interests of the children.
Thus, neither party can claim to
have gained a legal victory. Harry M. Flournoy, husband of the
former Mrs. Tichenor, is a permanent resident of Dallas, and
comes from an excellent family at Richmond, Virginia. He has
located permanently in Dallas and will shortly engage in business
here. He says he likes the push and vim of this city, and that
like many others coming from the Eastern states, was surprised
to find such a hustling, progressive community as this. Mr. Flournoy
predicts for Dallas a bright future. Since coming to Dallas,
Mr. and Mrs. Flournoy have made quite a number of friends, who
were deeply interested in the outcome of her fight for the possession
of the children. They were disappointed when the New Jersey judgment
was allowed to stand, but claim that the separation from the
children will be but temporary.

NEW
ORGANIZATION
HAS BEEN FORMED
______
Dallas Matrimonial
Bureau Is Organ-
ized--Marriages to Be Per-
formed Free.
The "Dallas
Matrimonial Bureau" was organized this morning and has as
its primary object, the establishment of a "clearing house
for lonely souls." This new organization is to be governed
and controlled by the same rules and regulations as those governing
the Des Moines, Iowa, bureau. Porter Cochran has been elected
president of the club and Sam Barnett has been made secretary.
President Cochran announced this morning that the object sought
would be to provide a "clearing house for lonely souls."
This, he said, was the principal object of the organization.
It is announced that women desiring
husbands will be required to send Mr. Cochran their names, addresses,
photographs and any other information that might be needed in
making the "matches." Mr. Cochran will be found at
the court house. He will have on file a classified waiting list
to be known as the "waiters." This will be placed and
arranged conveniently and has been divided into three distinct
classes, known as "A," "B" and "C."
All young ladies between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five
year will be placed in class A. All those between the ages of
twenty-five and thirty-five will be entered in class B, while
all those over thirty-five years of age will comprise class C.
Mr. Cochran, as president of the
new organization, announces that arrangements will be made with
Justice of the Peace T. A. Work, Justice of the Peace Q. D. Corley
and County Judge John L. Young for the performance of the ceremonies
free of charge.
