     Lizzie Petney was granted a div. from Henry Petney. Mary Blankenship from J. W. Blankenship. Nick Smith from Mrs. Smith, and the mill is still under a full head of steam.

     Louisa Quillen filed to-day a complaint against her husband, R. H. Quillen and Geo. W. Quillen, charging them with conspiring together to defraud her out of her interest of their homestead, by conveying the same to M.M. Bennet.

Divorce Suit.

     The first divorce suit this year was filed this morning. Fannie Crutchfield prays the court to grant her a divorce on the gound of cruel treatment. [husband not named]

Legal Matters.
Proceedings in the District Court.

     In the district court, Mattie Fisher, nee Mattie Sheilds, files a suit for divorce against Sam Fisher on the grounds, says the petition, of whipping and cruely beating her with sticks, etc., until about the 7th day of February 1887, when the defendant, by use of force, threats and menaces, forced her and her 3 children out of the house into the rain and storm, telling her that he would pay house rent for her no longer.

A Suit to Set Aside a Divorce.

     About two years ago, a divorce was granted to Mary C. Logan from A.R. Logan, on the grounds of desertion. Logan was in Mexico. The latter now comes forward with attorneys to set aside the decree of divorce. It is said that the real estate which was given to the woman has increased largely in value, and the attorneys have discovered a technical error in signing the proceedings heretofore had that gives them ground for action.

Divorce.

     Robert Lipsom, who was burned about a year ago on Jackson street, and who, at one time, conducted a restaurant on Elm street, has filed a petition in the district clerk's office praying for a divorce from his wife, Kittie Lipsom. ....they were married in St. Louis, in 1872, and lived together as man and wife until last September, when his wife began to live with Lawrence Rousseau, .....have no children except an adopted boy 12 years of age, and Mr. Lipsom asks for the care and custody of the child. There is considerable scandal connected with this affair in which the Herald takes no interest.

     James L. Lewis filed a suit for divorce on the 26th instant and it was granted this morning on the grounds of adultery. They were married in Dallas, March 10th.

A Divorce Not Granted.

     The celebrated case of Mrs. S. C. Latham against her husband, A. Latham, for cruel treatment, etc., came to a partial conclusion this morning...plaintiff's application for a continuance was overruled....Mr. Latham is a prominent farmer of Dallas county.

     Yesterday, Charlotte Long haunted the court house appealing to every court officer to know if Allen Long, city scavenger, her husband, had filed a suit of divorce. Allen had not. She loved a man in Chicago...wanted to marry another man....Allen made this appearance this a.m. in the district court and made the application....

     Mary Cleburg asks to be divorced from William Cleburg. They were married in Dallas last October and lived together six weeks, when William abandoned her.

     Jacob Grossman filed a petition for divorce in the district court this morning against his wife, Sallie Ann Grossman. Mr. Grossman alleges that on yesterday, June 5, 1887, Mrs. Grossman was guilty of adultery with a certain party, etc., etc.,

Cowen-Sherrod.

    Last night, Mr. E. P. Cowen and Miss Florence Sherrod were married at the residence of the bride's father, at Marshall. A special train was chartered yesterday by Mr. Cowen, and about 40 friends of the happy couple went to witness the marriage. Mr. Cowen paid the entire expenses.

     Lou A. Smith sues Marion A. Smith for divorce. She alleges that they had lived together only three weeks and that the name of Smith has become very odious to her, hence she prays for her maiden name, and is in duty bound she will ever pray, etc.
     Nettie B. Williams sues John A. Williams for a divorce. She says they were married in Atlanta, Ga., in February 1883. Cruel treatment and abandonment are alleged. She says the defendant called her the meanest woman he ever saw.

Law Suits.

     Mary Eliza Johnson sues Samuel Johnson for divorce. Were married June 20, 1878, in Houston. Lived together up to June 19, 1879, when defendant abandoned plaintiff and has refused to support her...that defendant abused petitioner with great violence; slapped her face, kicked her out of doors and threatened still greater indignities. Charges him with adultery with Nellie Hayes. That his conduct renders it impossible for petitioner to co-habit with defendant.
     J. H. Forsythe sues Marie J. Forsythe for a divorce, alleging that they were married September 18, 1883, in Dallas county. Defendant left plaintiff about June 1, 1885, and went to Waco, where she is an inmate of Edna Elmore's house, and assumes the name of Nettie Wilson.

     Edward H. Lewis, of Dallas....today filed suit against his wife, Harriett M. Lewis, of Malden[?]/Walden[?], Mass., for divorce....married December 25, 1869, and lived together as husband and wife until January 10, 1887...her jealous and suspicious conduct....daughter Hattie....Hattie died of bloody dysentery in the state of Florida.

     William Lander, to-day, filed suit ....against Minnie Lander, alleging ungovernable temper, etc., and defendant presently occupying a disreputable house. They were married in this county in 1882 and separated in 1885.

    ....summon Lou Ann Brown, who is a non-resident of the State of Texas, to appear in district court to answer the petition of G. H. Brown, filed in said court on the 27th day of October 1887....alleging in substance, that: plaintiff and defendant were legally married on March 1, 1883, and that on August 11, 1883, defendant abandoned plainfiff and continued to remain away from defendant with the intention of abandonment. Wherefore, plaintiff prays judgement for divorce, &c, &c.
     Summon C. G. Bowen, who is a non-resident of the State of Texas, to appear....to answer the petition of Annie V. Bowen, filed in said court on the 8th day of November 1887, against the said C. G. Bowen, and alleging in substance, that the plaintiff and defendant were married April 21, 1880. That defendant soon after their said marriage, began a course of unkind, harsh and neglectful conduct towards plaintiff, and that on or about October 1, 1884, defendant abandoned plaintiff and has continued to remain away from her and failed to support her.      Mrs. Minnie Russel to-day filed application for divorce from Henry Russel. In her petition, she sets up that they were married August 15th, 1884, and that on August 15th, 1888[sic], her husband beat, bruised and severely injured her, and on Nov. 1st, 1886, repeated the act. She alleges general cruel and inhuman treatment.
