POLICE PUSH
KILLING PROBE

_______

QUIZZING FAILS TO BREAK
STORIES OF THREE
SUSPECTS

Baffled by the lack of definite evidence linking three suspects with the Sunday night murder of Francisco Garcia, shot and killed in an attempted hijacking of a Mexican beer tavern, detectives, Thursday, were seeking to build up a case against the suspects.
Certain that the Mexican man, whom they arrested, and his Mexican woman companion and a white girl, have some connection with the case, members of the homicide squad were investigating their stories from every angle.
The suspects were arrested on an anonymous tip, but so far, have evaded all efforts to link them with the crime.
Meanwhile, plainclothes men were scouring Little Mexico in search of further evidence in the case, determined to continue until they break Dallas' latest unsolved murder.
Garcia was killed when he attempted to wrest a gun from a holdup man who invaded the beer tavern of M. Rozales, at 1513 Ross Avenue, Sunday night. He had almost succeeded, when the bandit fired one shot through his chest. He died a short time later.

_____

Slug Smashes Window of
Place After It Goes
Through Man's Body

     O. J. Jenkins, 50, interior decorator of 2746 Gladstone, was shot and killed almost instantly Tuesday after, witnesses said, he made a threatening hip-pocket move in the tavern of Joe Lisotta, 30, at 138 West Jefferson, at Zang.
Jenkins was unarmed. Lisotta surrendered to police immediately after the shooting and was released within an hour afterward on $5,000 bond furnished by Attorney Angelo Piranio and a relative.
The shooting occurred soon after 6 p. m., and was said by witnesses to have resulted from a series of verbal clashes with an unidentified customer, and finally with Lisotta, who told police he had asked Jenkins repeatedly to leave his tavern. Once, Jenkins was ejected, only to return, Lisotta said.
He said Jenkins approached the bar, told him that he (Jenkins) was armed with a .45-caliber pistol and that Lisotta had better prepare to say his last words.
Lisotta reached under the counter, snatched up a .38-caliber pistol and fired. The bullet pierced the right side of Jenkins' chest, passed completely through his body and crashed through a plate-glass window.
The only witnesses to the tragedy were Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Evans of the Cliff Hotel, customers, who were seated at a table near the one occupied by Jenkins, and an unidentified man believed to be a resident of Fort Worth. The men were drinking wine, they said, and after a time, became quarrelsome. They were separated by the proprietor and the Fort Worth resident left the tavern. A few minutes later, a quarrel between Jenkins and the proprietor arose, and Lisotta, they said, ejected him.
A few minutes later, Jenkins returned the shooting occurred. The victim dropped to the floor. At the Methodist Hospital, he was officially pronounced dead.
Jenkins is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Jenkins, a small daughter, a grown son and a sister, all of Dallas. The body was taken to the Lamar & Smith Funeral Home, where funeral arrangements are incomplete.
