Obituary Susan Denny 30 June 1887 Savanna Journal
Died in this city at the home of her son James Denny, June 22, 1887 Susan M. Denny (nee Vineyard) aged 70 years and 6 months. Mother Denny had been complaining for sometine, but was confined to her bed only two or three days before her death. SHe was born in Kentucky, December 16, 1816 and experienced religion when but 13 years old, uniting with the Methodist Church. In 1836 she became the wife of Rev. George Denny deceased, who for a number of years was a minister of the gospel in the M. E. Church and afterwards of the United Brethren Church. She was the mother of eight children, of whom three daughters and two sons remain to mourn her loss. The testimony of one of them is "Mother was a Christian if ever there was one". Religion was the joy and comfort of her old age and she died trusting in Jesus. Rev. James Johnson preached a suitable discourse at the United Brethren Church and the remains interred at the Zion Grove Cemetery. "Fording the river one by one".
