This is an effort to honor the memory of my grandfather

                                                                       Joseph Lawrence Head Jr.

It appears from other researchers that this line goes back to Herts England.  I personally have only been able to verify back to Hadley Head born in Orange, Co VA. His father, I believe, is Alfred Head. Have found only a few records so far for him. I've seen records that lead me to believe that Alfred's father was Wm Head Jr. Have found a few records on these gentlemen but, not any so far to connect them. Still trying to find will's for them in Orange and or Culpeper Co's of VA.

Hadley was born about 1755.  He married Mildred last name unknown. So far I've been unable to find a marriage record for them.  In 1784 he purchased 4,004 acres of land in what was then Fayette Co KY. This was listed in Old KY Entries and Deeds. I found record of where 3,000 ac of this land was sold to Robert Henderson. The land was located in Clark Co. KY by that time. Have yet to find where or when the rest of the land grant was sold. Hadley was in Henry Co. KY by 1810 census.  Hadley and Mildred had 7 children, Elizabeth, Nancy, Mary, John, James, Benjamin, Zachariah. Have yet to locate the final resting place of Hadley and Mildred.

Their oldest James b. July 10, 1776 in VA is the family line we are descended from.  James married Susanna Ware Oglesby (b. Oct. 7, 1783) on June 7, 1802 in Jefferson Co KY.  James and Susanna lived in Henry Co then  Oldham Co KY. They may not have actually moved from Henry to Oldham because this was the time when the counties in KY were ever changing. I have yet to get copies of land records to check on this theory. They had 12 children, Zachariah G., Richard C., Matilday C., Harriett L, Jacob Brown, Lawrence W., George W, Benjamin M, Mildred, Mahala. The land that James once owned and where the cemetery he and some of his family are buried, is now at the back of the golf course in Oldham. I had thought that the golf course had put up the fence around the cemetery there but have recently found out that is was actually descendants of Matilday Head Blankenship who had the fence erected around the cemetery and another descendant who put up the headstone marker showing who was there by the headstone's found. Martha Hall is the descendant who had the fence put up, the name of the person who had the marker put up I don't know at this time but when I do, I will defiantly put it here so they get the credit that is so deserved.

Lawrence W. Head was the child of the 12 that is the next link in the chain.  Lawrence b. abt. 1829 in Oldham married Susan Emily Mitchell b. September 13, 1834 in Peyton, Shelby Co KY.  They married on January 22, 1854 in Shelby Co KY.  They had 5 children, Dora Belle, James M, Charles C., Mary (Lottie), Joseph L.  In 1860 census Lawrence and Susan were together and had 1 child Dora.  By the 1870 census Lawrence was gone and Susan was listed as a widow.  Their youngest child Joseph Lawrence was born April 15, 1868. I have been unable to find any records on Lawrence since.

The next link.. Joseph Lawrence Head Sr. married Mary Samuels Williams b. March 22, 1876. They were married on November 9, 1892 in Jeffersonville, Clark Co. IN.  This family also resided in Oldham Co. as did his parents before him.  Joseph and Mary had 6 children, Sarah S., Alla Dora, Joseph L., Evelyn, Warren.

Next link is Joseph Lawrence Head Jr. (papa) born April 21, 1906 in Oldham.  He married Geneva (Jackie) Fluke Miller.  This was Jackie’s second marriage.  She had 2 children by her first marriage to Lawrence D. Miller.. Arthur Miller and George Washington Miller.  Joseph and Jackie had 1 child, Blanche Marie.  Joseph was still in Oldham in 1930 per census report.  By Blanche’s birth in Dec. 1941 he had moved to Cincinnati, OH where she was born.  Jackie died August 6, 1960 of complications from diabetes and was laid to rest in Georgetown KY where she was born.  Joseph lived in Cincinnati in the same apartment until July 1982, when his health forced him to come and live in Indiana with us.  Papa passed from cancer in March 1991.  He was laid to rest in Arcadia, IN.

This is the “no frills” version… Will post more details on this line as I find new clues.  Hope you enjoy this.
