Mount
The Mount family is one of the family's that married into my Head family. Quit a bit of my information has came from other Mount family researchers (Pat Mount and David Dlouhy). I have gotten a lot of help from both of them on this family. So up front I want to thank them for their help. I will give some background information on this family and add more as I can.
*John Clayton Mount Sr. was born in Hunterdon Co. New Jersey on March 10, 1765, the son of Thomas Mount and Mary Clayton. He meet and married Lydia Jennings born March 20, 1773 believed born in Virginia. They were married in Sterling Kentucky. To this union 11 children were born, Thomas, Polly, James, William, Nancy, Amos, John Jr, Sarah, Martha, Malinda and Elizabeth. I, at this time am not sure when John moved to Kentucky, but from records it shows that John and Lydia settled in Nelson Co. KY, part of which later became Oldham Co.
John C. Mount Sr. and his wife Lydia are buried in Oldham Co. KY, in the Woodsmall -Mount - Dowden Cemetery. You can see a complete listing of this cemetery and the restoration on the Oldham Co US Gen Web page.
*Thomas Mount born October 30, 1793 in VA. Thomas married Eunice Thompson on March 17, 1818 in Henry Co. KY. To this union 2 sons were born, Jasper (married Lucy Crosby Feb 13, 1841 Shelby Co. KY) John T. (married America Francis Watson date unknown at this time).
*Polly Mount born October 14, 1794. I have no other information on Polly as of yet. Have seen the possibility that "Polly" could be the nick name for Mary. So still have some searching to do here.
*James Mount born March 15, 1796 married Amanda Railey on August 3, 1847 in Oldham Co. KY. This couple also had 2 son's Joseph Railey (married 1st. Caroline Alsop Sept. 1, 1871 married 2nd Annie McRoberts Nov. 1, 1876) John James (married Ruth Morris Jan. 8, 1878 Oldham Co. ) James and Amanda were laid to rest in Valley of Rest in Oldham Co. KY.
*William Mount born March 11, 1798. Still looking for further information on Wm.
*Nancy Mount born February 12, 1800. Nancy married Broadus Fisher on March 12, 1812 in Henry Co. KY. They had 6 children, John, James, William, David, Thomas and Broadus Jr. Nancy and Broadus are both laid to rest at Valley of Rest in Oldham Co.
*Amos Mount born December 15, 1801, married Charlotte Woodsmall on December 10, 1827 in Oldham Co. To this union was born 4 children, Sarah, William, Allan, Amos G. Amos passed on April 28, 1841. Charlotte married 2 more times. She is laid to rest in the Woodsmall -Mount -Dowden Cemetery in Oldham along with Amos's parents.
*John Clayton Jr. born July 19, 1807 is the child of John and Lydia that married into the Head family. He first married on December 31, 1836 Harriet Head daughter of James Head and Susanna Ware Oglesby. She passed on December 21, 1837. No children were born to this couple. Harriet is buried in the James Head family cemetery in Oldham Co.
John next married on March 5, 1839 to Julia Ann Head Ellis. Julia Ann daughter of Zachariah Head and widow of Stephen Ellis. Julia was a cousin to Harriet. Julia had 2 sons by her first husband Stephen, they are Zachariah and Stephen. Now to the union of John and Julia Ann there were born 5 children Hannah, Rachel, Lydia, infant son that passed at birth and unnamed or name unknown (child is buried in the Zachariah Head family cemetery in Oldham Co and the headstone is broken just above where it says "infant son of") and James Woodford.
I just recently got a copy of John C. Mount's will and in it he mentions all of his children but were I and the others show his oldest child named Hannah, in his will he refers to her as "Louisa". In the 1850 census her name appears to be Harriet L., and in the marriage records she is listed as Harriet L. marrying Robert Edds on December 12, 1867. She had passed by the time John had written his will. I have yet to find her final resting place to see what may be on her headstone.
Also mentioned in his will are son J. W. Mount, (he married Emma Alice Yager January 8, 1874)), Rachel (married J. B. Oglesby October 23, 1863) Lydia (married E. Temp Yager January 20, 1864).
*Sarah Mount born May 27, 1809 married James Woodsmall on October 28, 1830 in Oldham Co. James is the brother to the wife of Amos Mount. To Sarah and James were born 5 children, Harriet , Lydia, William (Wm's daug. Lillian married James M. Head an uncle to my grandfather.) , Sarah, John C. James passed on Sept 3, 1838 and is laid to rest at Woodsmall Mount Dowden Cemetery and Sarah is laid to rest at Valley of Rest.
*Martha Mount born May 7, 1811 married Robert Weakley on December 17, 1840 in Oldham Co. No known children were born to this union. Martha married 2nd James Hollingsworth on Jan. 6, 1844 in Oldham Co. Now to the union of Martha and James were born 10 children, Thomas, William, Mary, Susan, Harriett, Bushred, Louisa, L. F., Ann Eliza, James Robert.
*Malinda Mount born August 8, 1813 no further information at this time.
*Elizabeth Mount born September 29, 1815, married Calien Crosby on June 2, 1843 in Oldham Co. to this union 6 children were born, Mary, Lydia, John, Charles and an unnamed child.
Now, the information I have listed above is just an over view of this family. I tried to show the early family after they first came to Kentucky to settle down. As I find more information on the families I'll add it in. If you see anything I have wrong or left out please feel free to let me know so I can correct it.
