Fifth Generation

61. Laughlin FLYNN22,49,50 was born before 1790 in Surry County, North Carolina.22 He died about 1835 at the age of 45.22

FAR FLUNG FLINNS has identified this Laughlin in two different families. They have him as a son of Thomas, but then later in the book say he was instead a Laughlin Jr. son of Laughlin & Elizabeth Wright [p.191]. Since the book has also placed Elizabeth Wright with the wrong husband, this is not too surprising. [p.164] Relationships, his location, the fact that he, along with Thomas Wright Flynn were security for Thomas Flynn's widow Maryam to administer his estate, indicates he was more likely a son of Thomas. Thomas was likely married twice and there is no way to determine who was the mother of his children.

Marriage to Anny Gymon was in Stokes Co NC. Daniel Scott was Bondsman. 19 Oct 1810.

1820 Monroe Co KY Census; p.213: Loflin Flin with 1m under 10, 3f under 10; he and probable spouse both 26-45. Probably this Laughlin.

1830 Henry Co TN, p.20
Flynn, Laughlin 2m under 5, 3m 5-10, 2m 10-15, 1m 15-20 1m age 40-50 [probably Laughlin]
1f 5-10, 1f 10-15, 1f 30-40 [if this is the same man as the one in Monroe Co in 1820, at least two daughters may have died because there were 3 females under 10 in 1820]

Laughlin is believed to be the man in the 1830 census in Henry Co TN, age 40-50. His name also appears in the court records there. In Aug of 1827, he purchased a cow & calf at an estate sale. On 21 Sep 1828, Laughlin Flin was a subscribing witness to the will of Mark Donan. At the December Term of court, 1835, he was allowed $60 for his support; later the same day King Henry Caplinger was allowed $10 for keeping Laughlin Flin. He is not found after that date.

Laughlin is thought perhaps to have married the widow of his brother-in-law John Guymon - Mary "Polly" Wright after the deaths of his wife Anna and her brother John Guymon. Laughlin had been bondsman for their marriage. A letter from a son states that his mother [Polly Wright Guymon] died, he & his brothers were bound out, and their Flinn stepfather died not long after.

Laughlin FLYNN and Anna GUYMON were married on 19 October 1810 in Stokes County, North Carolina.21,22,29 Anna GUYMON, daughter of Isaiah GUYMON and Elizabeth FLYNN, was born on 20 August 1791 in Stokes County, North Carolina.29 She died in 1829 at the age of 38 in Edgar County, Illinois.22
