In September of 1901, Amanda F. Poindexter stated her husband had died two years previously at the age of 64 and that they were married 1868, in Grayson Co, TX.
The Poindexter book gives the place of his death as "McMilland" Oklahoma. There is no such place, but there is a McMillan, OK in Marshall County. He is buried there in the McMillan city cemetery.

Benjamin Speer Poindexter's widow and children registered in the Five Civilized Tribes enrollment in 1896.
An entire group of descendants of both Benjamin and brother Arch and their half siblings applied through the Mississippi Choctaw enrollment. Both Benjamin & Archibald or their descendants, gave their mother as Mary P. Poindexter, not Sarah Gist. They claimed their Indian relationship through Rebecca Flynn, their grandmother. Not only was she not found on any of the Choctaw roles [she certainly was not even Indian] but they could not prove she had ever lived in Mississippi or Alabama [and she never had].
