Second Generation

2. Elias "Eli" HARRISON was born circa 1769 in Botetourt County, Virginia. He died on 5 September 1836 at the age of 67 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

I have no direct proof that Eli or Elias was another son of Jonathan & Mercy Terry Harrison, but records from Claiborne Co TN suggest that this is true. I have also seen that Jonathan's father was an Elias Harrison.
I have also seen the suggestion that his father was James HARRISON (James served in Rev.War from NC); his mother was Winnie REDDIN.
Eli was married twice - first to Martha Hedgepeth, probably about 1790 or so, and then to Nancy Hail, 19 Aug 1824, Pulaski Co KY. He had children by both wives.
I have a 5th cousin DNA matches to descendants of this line, so it is possible that Eli and my Elisha were probably brothers - that would certainly guarantee Jonathan Harrison was his father.

Manuscript attached to Ancestry family tree had some of the following data which led to additional records, as well as a list of the children of Elias.

3 Mar 1792 Jonathan Harrison sold 100 acres on Marshal's Creek, branch of Big River, in Stokes County, NC to Richard Beasley for 60#'s. Note: 5 Oct 1800. Richard Beasley wrote his will, Stokes, NC and left his estate to wife Martha and named a daughter Patty Harrison. Could this have been the Martha "Patty" who was married to Jonathan's son Eli/Elias? Elias & Martha's two eldest children are said to have been born in NC. This is not the surname usually seen for Elias's wife but then that surname has never had evidence of any proof.

An Obediah Harrison married Charlotte Potter, 2 Jul 1816, Clark Co, KY, Clark being adjacent to Madison Co where Elisha Harrison was living. He had joined the Big Springs Church in 1802 - too early to have been a son of Eli. Was he another son of Jonathan?

On the 1880 census of Pulaski Co. KY, his daughter, Martha said that she was born in TN, her parents born Virginia. . He was a county Trustee from 1814 until his death in 1836.

Children said to be Rhoda, Daniel, William, Celety, Livinia, Martha, Mary Ann, Catherine and Benjamin.

Thought to be buried Brooks Cemetery, Claiborne, TN

Elias "Eli" HARRISON and Martha [HARRISON] were married circa 1790. Martha [HARRISON] was born circa 1770. She died about 1820 at the age of 50 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

Although her surname is seen as Hedgepeth or Hudspeth, but there is proof cited. She was more likely Martha Beasley, daughter of Richard.

Martha was probably Martha Beasley:
3 Mar 1792 Jonathan Harrison sold 100 acres on Marshal's Creek, branch of Big River, in Stokes County, NC to Richard Beasley for 60#'s. 5 Oct 1800. Richard Beasley wrote his will, Stokes, NC and left his estate to wife Martha and named a daughter Patty Harrison. Could this have been the Martha "Patty" who was married to Jonathan's son Eli/Elias as his first wife? Elias & Martha's two eldest children are said to have been born in NC. This is not the surname usually seen for Elias's wife but then that surname has never had evidence of any proof.

Some have tried to give Nancy the surname Hail based on the following census.
The marriage record is plainly Nancy Keesee. A death date of 1 Sep 1852, without proof may be very wrong (this date also marked as Pulaski, Virginia - which would be very wrong)

1850 Census, Pulaski Co, KY, Hh 851

Elias Hail 8, John, 6. Berry, 4. Cathrine, 3. Wesley, 1
