A document in the papers of Robert Sterling Graves states that Hannah S. Graves and William A. Thomas "went to Texas before the Civil War." They must have gone soon after the 1860 census.

W. A. Thomas found in Calhoun Co AR in 1860 was listed as a Physician with property values of $8000/$18,000. He was in Caswell Township and the "Thomas's Store" post office. He had six slaves listed on the slave schedule.

Living with his family were the following: R. Garrett, male age 30, carpenter, born in NC; J. C. Barrow age 22, principal of Cain School born in AR; J. H. Minney, male age 36, hatter, born in PA; Ellen Keene, age 21, Domestic, born in England; S. C. Neal age 24, merchant born in GA; and W. W. Calhoun, age 40, carpenter, birthplace unknown.

William was not with his family in Texas in 1870; presumably he died after they arrived. The youngest daughter, Fannie H., was born 1865 in Texas.

William A. THOMAS and Hannah S. GRAVES were married on 1 October 1844 in Caswell County, North Carolina.110,225,226 Hannah S. GRAVES, daughter of Jeremiah GRAVES and Delilah S. LEA, was born in 1824 in Virginia.225
