40. Robert Wister WALTERS^{4,19,23,35,108,140,141} was born about 1795 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.¹ He died before January 1853 at the age of 58 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.¹

Robert Walters married Elizabeth Atkinson. Sur: John Dodson. Consent of Josiah Atkinson for daughter Elizabeth. She also signed the certificate. Married by Rev. William Blair.

1820 Census, Pittsylvania Co VA, p.67. Listed with Robert Walters, Senr and William H. Walters. Age 26-45, spouse of same age. 3 boys and 2 girls under age 10. [That would be 5 children born in 7 years.]
This census also has, p. 48b Robert Walters. 1m 16-26, 1f 16-26. He was probably the son of Jackson Walters.

Found the following Robert Walters in the 1850 Pittsylvania Co VA Census. Robert Walters, age 55, farmer. Elizabeth age 55; Sarah age 23; Charles age 20, Joel age 35, Fanny age 13 [possible granddaughter]. Surely this is the correct Robert, given the wife as Elizabeth. The Gedcom on this family gave Robert a birthdate of 7 Dec 1775 which is too early - 1795 seems plausible.

In the papers of Mervin Walters were the following notes that I believe to be those of this Robert Walters:

The records of Robert B. Walters contain some of the above children but also show an Elinor who married William Henry Hardy, a John Walters & a Jack Walters [I wonder if either or both of these is the Jackson above]

Charlie is said to have never married
Richard W. Walters died in Surry Co NC; he married Rebecca on 2 Dec 1845.

There is an unidentified Pinckney Walters, age 33 [born 1817] living only a few houses from Robert & Elizabeth in 1850. Marriage records from Pittsylvania Co show Pickney B. Walters, age 26, to Elender Chaney, age 21, 6 Nov 1843. I believe he is probably a son of William H. Walters & Eutally Ingram. In the 1850 census, Richard, son of Robert & Elizabeth, lived in a nest of Chaneys. I have not found a Robert B. Walters of appropriate age and birth year to be the Robert B. transcribed from the the Will of Robert Walters. I wonder if this was perhaps misread.

Pittsylvania Co VA, Hh 1248 Marshall Norman, age 40, Susan age 36. James 14, Frances 13, Elizabeth 12, Joel 14 [should this have been 10?], William 8, John 6, George 4, Alice 2, Henry age 1.
204	ii.	Robert B. WALTERS was born about 1816. Named in his father's will.
205	iii.	Joel C. WALTERS was born in March 1817 in Virginia.¹⁴³ He died in March 1859 at the age of 42 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Note from the Walters Family Genealogy Forum, states that Joel was born about 1820 per the 1850 census. He served and died in the Ringgold 13th Battalion under Capt. Timothy H. Stamps (What war??? Not confirmed and doubtful. Pittsylvania Co, VA Death Record Joel C. Walters, age 42, died of Consumption, March 1859. Born March 1817, Pittsylvania Co. Reported by C. W. Walters, Brother.
206	iv.	Lela Eleanor WALTERS was born in 1819 in Virginia. Named as Lela, or Lita, and as L. E. Handy or Hardy in her father's will. One source suggested she was Eleanor and had married William H. Hardy. I did find William H. Hardy in 1850. Pittsylvania Co, Hh 1224 William Hardy, age 48. Eleanor, age 31 [born 1819]. James 13, Thomas 11, Elizabeth 8, Mary 4, and Missouri age 2.
207	v.	Richard WALTERS was born in 1819 in Virginia. Richard named in his father's will. Marriage in Pittsylvania Co: Richard Walters, age 26, to Rebecca Rice, age 21, 2 Dec 1845. She was the daughter of Martha Rice. Surety by Joel C. Walters. In 1850, Richard Walters was found in Household 877. He was age 31. Rebecca was 26. 212	x.	Charles W. WALTERS was born in 1830 in Virginia.¹⁴³ He died on 3 July 1863 at the age of 33 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
213	xi.	Fanny WALTERS¹⁴³ was born in 1837 in Virginia. This child is listed with Robert & Elizabeth Walters in the 1850 census, but she is listed after Joel Walters, age 35 - she could be his daughter. There is no Fanny Walters named in the will of Robert.
