400. James Eli WALTERS was born in 1849 in Williamson County, Tennessee. He died in 1911 at the age of 62.

James's name was possibly changed - he was Eli, age 1 in 1850, James E., age 10 in 1860. No James is mentioned in his father's estate papers in 1861. However, an Eli A. Jr was named with the implication he was the oldest. Perhaps his name was James Eli and was changed to "Junior" after the death of his father. Or maybe a lawyer was just confused because he was called "Eli".

J. E. Walters married in Maury Co TN to Alice Bond, 2 Dec 1869. Alice obviously her middle name. FamilySearch.org.

The following also indicates he was James E., not Eli A. "Jr".
Depositions, 22 Jun 1871, taken for the estate of James's father and the expenses of the estate regarding Eli's guardianship of Francis Carsey, brother of Eli's wife, who was insane.

The Memoradum is enclosed and dates of some of the expenses are as early as 1852 and continue through 1866.

Jas E. Walters and wife Allice were both 30. Sons James age 8, Daughter Nannie age 6, Son "Blunt" age 4, and Morris age 6 months.

Living next door was his mother, Mary E. Walters age 62. Wm. V., 27, Thomas 21, and Florence 18. That accounts for all of Eli & Mary's children except of Isadora "Dora" born about 1855, who had married.

Most of this family, except for son Morris, is buried together in the old Walters Cemetery in Franklin, Williamson Co. There is an obelisk inscribed on four sides:

James Eli WALTERS and Mary Alice BOND were married on 2 December 1869 in Maury County, Tennessee. Mary Alice BOND was born on 8 August 1849 in Tennessee. She died on 8 September 1884 at the age of 35 in Williamson County, Tennessee.
