The inscription on the back of this picture says "Our house built for mother. Joe Kearney and Mary Ann Kearney"

This picture was taken in 1948 when Mary Ann went to visit her brothers in Australia. Who was "Mother?" Is "Mother" refering to Mary McDonnell/Kearney (Joe and Mary Ann's mother)? When was it built? Did her first husband, James Kearney, build her this house or was it built after he died in a railway accident?
