A
descendant of James Leon Hennesy has written a litle of her memories of
James Leon's stores.
She describes one of the stores as having been the "company"
store for the Simmons sawmill. She gives the Bogalusa-Franklinton
Highway as a place name, but for which store I don't know as he is noted
as having had "stores." Curtis Hennesy mentions a store at
Stoney Point. I've
also restored a photo identified as being of his
first restaurant.
This is a fascinating shot. Apex Red Shoes are advertized (for men, $4 and $5 dollars) made in New Orleans. Arny's drink, 5 cents, is also advertized (name on every bottle).
James Leon Hennesy is standing in the far right window. I don't know whether it may be Lucinda Ponds (2nd wife) or Della Nobles (3rd wife) in the far left window. No one else can be identified and the picture gave no indication of photographer or date.
The two men in the right cart appear to be brothers.
This photo of the store required an enormous amount
of restoration. James Leon Hennesy seen in the right hand window
(perhaps Della Nobles is in the left hand window), the face of the woman
in the long dark skirt beneath him had been obviously scratched out. So
it should be noted that I took the face of the woman to her left, and
the hairdo of the woman on the far left, and thus fashioned a head for
this individual.
There is a great deal of detail in this
photo, which can't be seen here. I've taken James Leon Hennesy from the
300 dpi version of the photo and placed the image of him down below. Links to enlargements of the other individuals are below. |
