     MY UNCLE BUBBA

Harold or Bubba as he was known to the family, (I think his friends called him Harry) loved boating. He built a 25 foot wooden Cris Craft Cabin Cruiser boat in his back yard at 8 Carole Ave, in New Hyde Park with the help of his friend Tom. I went on it many times with Bub when I was around 13 years old. I even remember painting the inside once with him. He kept it docked in East Rockaway, behind someone's house. I went fishing with Bub many times on the boat and when we stayed for the summer at Sag Harbor. He taught me how to fish. The motor on the boat was an outboard, I think about 50 horse power and it had a pull start. One day he was trying to start it and he probably exerted himself to much and because he had a bad heart, he fell very sick and died just a few days later. My grandmother never got over it and kept the door to his room closed all the time and never went into the room. I went in once and it was exactly the way Bub left it. She sold the house shortly after Bub's death and moved to Center Reach, LI. Bubba was a great guy and I love and miss him very much. My grandmother (Gertrude Mabel Alleyne Henderson Culley)is buried with him in Evergreen Cemetery in Brooklyn. I visited there many times with her and after her death. On Sep. 22, 2003, I visited the grave and also found the grave of Ina Rita and Calvin, my grandmothers children (my Aunt and Uncle) that died when Rita was only 9 years and Calvin was 4 months old. They had no grave stone, so I am trying to get one installed but I have no deed to the grave, so it may not come about.

     MY AUNT RITA

My grandmother, Mabel Alleyne and my Mother, Doris Henderson called Ina, Rita. I knew she died when she was about 9 years of age from diptherea. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery with her brother Calvin. I never knew either of them but because I heard my grandmother speak of them so much, I almost felt I knew them.
