OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY
Over 95 Years Old, August Kahring Parts With Well Spent Life.
On Tuesday evening August Kahring passed to the Great Beyond at the extreme old age of 95 years, 5 months, and 26 days. He came here from the Copper country in the 80's and took up a homestead just West of the Park. His children were grown at the time and they also homesteaded in this neighborhood. He showed remarkable agility for a man of his age and up to a year ago was occasionally seen on the streets.
The deceased has resided with his daughter, Mrs. M. Schaeffer, since 1892 at which time his wife departed this life. Of six children born in the family, four survive him together with grand and great grand-children.
Rev. F. G. Cassens preached the funeral services at the Lutheran church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was in the local cemetery.
Mr. Kahring was a peaceable old man and gave no one offense. During his younger days he worked hard and lived a good Christian life.
Killed in a mining accident at age 34 in Allouez, Keweenaw county, Michigan.

ACCIDENT RESULTS IN DEATH
Henry Kahring Fatally and Mrs. Kahring Badly Injured in Runaway.
A most distressing accident happened at the Henry Kahring farm last Saturday morning that resulted in the loss of the life of Mr. Kahring and the infliction of severe injuries to Mrs. Kahring.
Mr. and Mrs. Kahring were just leaving their farm for a trip to this village in a single buggy. A spirited colt was hitched to the buggy and as they passed through the gate of the farm fence Mrs. Kahring started to raise an umbrella, as it was raining at the time. This action frightened the colt, who bolted across the town road and turned sharply when he reached the ditch on the opposite side, turning the buggy about and over with a severe jerk and throwing the occupants against a telephone pole with great force.
Both occupants of the buggy were severely injured. Mr. Kahring suffered a fractured skull and a contusion of the brain, therefrom, together with internal injuries and broken limbs, while Mrs. Kahring had a leg broken and was severely bruised and cut about the head.
They were taken to the house and surgical attention was secured immediately. Mr. Kahring was unconscious when picked up and he remained in that state until death relieved his sufferings early Sunday morning. Mrs. Kahring, while suffering greatly, is slowly improving.
Mr. Kahring has long been a respected citizen of this neighborhood and his sudden taking away in this shocking manner is deeply felt in the community.
Mr. Kahring was one of the first who came to Glidden to make this their home and he settled about a mile west of the village, where he built a very beautiful farm home. He was the father of a large and respected family, many of whom are grown. He served as supervisor of the town on different occasions and as a neighbor was above reproach.
In these very distressing circumstances the sympathy of the community goes forth to the afflicted family.
The funeral was held from the Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon and burial was at the local cemetery. The large attendance on this occasion attested to the estimable standing in the community enjoyed by the deceased.
Those from out of town to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dryden, of Park Falls; Fred Peiper, of Houghton, a brother to Mrs. Kahring, and Jacob Kahring, of Moose Lake, Minn.
Card of Thanks.
We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who so kindly assisted us during our hours of deepest sorrow and since the death of our beloved husband and father. We are especially grateful to Rev. Cassens for his comforting words and to all those who brought floral offerings.
Mrs. Henry Kahring and Family.
On Page 5, under Local News, it is listed "Jacob Kahring came from Moose Lake, Minn., Tuesday to attend the funeral of his brother, Henry".
There is a discrepancy in regard to the date of birth for Henry C. Kehring. Some sources state the year 1854 (ex. tombstone, census records); other sources state the year 1855 (WI Sheboygan County birth index).
Augustus is not listed with the August Kohring family on the 1870 U.S. Census, thus presumed to be dead. As of this writing, no death record has been found. Last Modified: 7 Sep 2004
