It is stated that this graveyard was started in 1879 with the burial of John Butcher 
(brother of William) his grave is unmarked.  
            
   At the Jack & Brenda Jarrell residence at Williamsport, a small road on the East
side of their home leads to the cemetery. This road can only be traversed for about
1/4 mile. At this point off to your right you will see the Hershcell Butcher
cemetery.  Bear to your left and one must walk the rest of the way to the top of the
hill.  It's probably 600' or more to the top.  There is a road but it's impassable
in winter and only a 4-wheel drive could make it anytime.

NOTE: There are many unmarked or worn headstones. Conditions weren't ideal
when I did these so I could have missed a few. There were several field stones

NOTE: Fannin,Edgar (born: Oct.17 1912 died: Oct.17 1912 a premature birth) was a
son of William & Mary Essie (Butcher) Fannin, he is one of the unknowns in
this cemetery. [email protected]

NOTE:** Although no stone has been documented for John Butcher in this Cemetery it is
stated by family members that he is indeed buried in this cemetery,, It should
also be noted that in the early 1900's the "WPA" project in Johnson County
stated that John Butcher was, born 4/11/1842, died 01/10/1879 and buried on
the Butcher Farm Cemetery North side of the point

NOTE: Jacob Walter Butcher,born Jan 1877 in Johnson Co Ky,s/o Marcus & Gemima Meek Butcher:
died 1941, buried Canute cemetery, section #3,Canute,Washita Co.OK. Buried with him is wife,
Sarah Ludeamy (Purky) Butcher, born May 1866 in Johnson Co Ky, d/o-George & Elizabeth

NOTE: Still doing research on the Butcher Cemeteries.I can not find any data to support the
notion that this cemetery was named after John Butcher,a s/o Jacob & Arta Dotson Butcher.
All census records (1850,1860,1870) does not list a son John Butcher in this family.
(1)I did find a John W.Butcher,s/o Marcus & Gemima Meek Butcher who was born about
Dec 1979.He is listed on the 1880 Greasy Creek Prct census,hh#136.No other records found of
him (2)Since William Butcher bought that land in 1880,and since Marcus was William,s son &
John W. was a grandson,it,s logical to assume he died young and would have been buried on
family owned land,being so far from a town cemetery.(therfore the name John Butcher Cem).
This would aslo establish the date this cemetery started.It has been in the Butcher Family
since then .(b)Butcher,W.E.,believe this to be Butcher,Willi am E.,b-8-23-1924,BC#42702,
mother Batha Ward,father,James Butcher,DC#17171,vol35,1925.
