Hi my name is Kerrie, I have been tracing my family tree for many years now, Some of it i have to thank one or two people for all their help, Because without them i would still be struggling. The starting surname and my main intrest is Kells, I have spent many hours searching records, internet etc. The Kells family tree according to tradition started with a pastor in the Piedmont valleys, Which is now Northern Italy. The people that lived there were called Vaudios and later called Waldeness. They suffered persecution over the years mainly due to their religous beliefs and polictical view's. Many had to flee their homes to other countries in search of sanctuary. In the 16th centuary this pastor and his family fled to Switzerland and then later they moved to Palatinate, Germany to seek saftey, On the banks of the River Rhine. Here they allied themselves with the Huguenots who were also living in that area. The pastor died in this area. During the Thirty Years war this area was raided by the French soldiers and many of the people were massacred. The pastors son, Alexander, his wife and one child escaped, And sought sanctuary in Britian. They finally settled on the banks of the River Tweed in Northumberland and apparently changed their surname to Kells...
