KIMMORLEY AND RELATED FAMILIES

This site mainly records information about the ancestors and descendants of James Philip Kimmorley and Mary Ann Urquhart, who married 3.9.1838 at Dalwood, New South Wales. It includes information about some other families that became related by marriage to the original Kimmorley-Urquhart family, in the pioneering period.

The information was assembled by Ken Thompson, born 28.1.1930, son of Marian Louise Kimmorley 1906-1959. The information came from many sources. A significant part of it is original research. Much of this research has previously been circulated in internet correspondence.

The baptism of “James Philip, son of Thomas and Mary Kimley, Union Court” is recorded on the Register of St Andrew, Holborn, London. This is a misrecording of the baptism of James Philip Kimmerley, who later became a convict and was sent to Australia in 1829. He changed his surname a few years later to Kimmorley. The name and the spelling of it only gradually became standardised, but after 1881 all of James’ direct male descendants were named Kimmorley.
