A descendant of John Goswick b.ca.1861 stated that
he was one of 3 boy's placed up for adoption when the father died in 1865.
This is the same story told by the North Carolina Goswick descendants of
Jason Turner and Charles M. Goswick of Franklin Co. N.C.. Altho the
brother living in the household was named "Kindred" b.ca.1861 Franklin
Co.N.C. John M. Goswick had a brother "James"
and a sister "Eva".

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline, with the Rev. Becky Sherwood of First Presbyterian Church of East Moline officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
Ernest was born on March 16, 1930, in Moline, the son of Ernest Irwin and Ethel Winters Moon. He married LaZelle Goswick on July 7, 1957, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1987.
Ernest worked as a carpenter and in the machine shop at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1986. He was an Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Berlin Airlift.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and his trips to California. He was a past president of the Senior Citizens Center in Green Rock.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Matthew and Frances Moon, Rock Island; seven nephews; two nieces; 24 grandnieces and nephews; 17 great-grand nieces and nephews; and many other special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Madelyn J. Goswick, 79, of Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, formerly of Moline, died
Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.
Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in National
Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Oak Glen Home. Madelyn was born on June 26, 1925, in Elkhart, Ind. She was raised by her
parents, Jesse and Alice Hoste Westfall, in Elkhart before moving to Rock
Island. She married Charles Goswick Jr. in Rock Island in 1948, and the couple
made there home in Moline. Madelyn was a devout Chicago Cubs fan. She also enjoyed reading and
collecting salt and pepper shakers as a hobby. Survivors include her children and their spouses; Jesse and Debbie Goswick,
Rock Island, Jean and Guy Odom, Middleburg, Fla., Anthony Goswick, East Moline;
grandchildren, Rachel, Zachary, Anthony, Nicholas, Justin, Lindsey, Evan and
Grace Goswick, Charles Odom and Tiffany Moffatt; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1973, and a son, John
Edward in infancy.

Darlene Engels
Darlene F. Engels, 74, of Milan, died Monday,
Dec. 29, 2003, at Genesis
Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10
a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, Milan, where she was a member. Entombment will
be at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, Rock Island.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a rosary will
be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart
Association.
Darlene was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Moline, the daughter of
George and
Chlotiel Goswick Thomas. She married Julius R.
``Jack'' Engels Feb. 6, 1951,
in Moline. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1990.
She was employed at Sears Roebuck & Co., Moline, retiring in 1991, in the
auditing department, after 25 years.
Darlene loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandson. She was a
die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Jeff Taber, Rock
Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Toni Engels, East Moline;
grandchildren, Derrek and Yumi Taber, Joseph Taber, and Kari, Kelli, Kim and
Katie Engels; a great-grandson, Tyler Taber; a sister and brother-in-law,
Audrey and Al Heyninck, East Moline; a brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and
Edna Thomas, a sister-in-law, Mary Thomas, all of Colona; and an aunt,
Alberta Engels, Rock Island.
