Memories of the past

My Mother "Amanda" and me "Keuttah"
picture taken 1934
The picture of me sitting in my Mother lap  was taken when I was about 3 years old.. My family was living near Russellville, Arkansas during that year (1934) and I had become very sick with typhoid fever and the Doctor told my parents that he did not think I would live. I have no memory of this illness, but my Mother spoke of it many times and saying that as I became weaker and sicker that my hair had all fallen out and that my fever had run so high that they did not know from day to day just how long I would live.  The Good Lord knew that my Mother still grieved over the loss of my little brother "Otis Carroll"  in 1924 at age 27 months, and he spared my life.  My Mother said that I had not been able to eat or drink for several days and she and my Dad must have been sitting at my bedside when I suddenly awoke and ask for "ice cream" .  My Mother must have made the ice cream as she said she fed me ice cream till I did not want any more.
