According to the US Census for Illinois, by 1870 Gustav lived in Sagetown, (now Gladstone) Henderson County, Illinois, where he worked as a baker.

In Sagetown, Gustav lived with Friedrich, Carolina, Wilhelm and Anna NEUENDORF (NEYENDORF) and August and Wilhelmina MOSNER. An Anna Neuendorf, of the same age, 57, as Carolina, travelled on the Teutonia in June of 1870.
Auguste Mosner Kerfin and four of her children departed from Hamburg on the ship Germania on October 26, 1872. The passenger list names Auguste (37), Anna (8), Bertha (6), Carl (3) and Elise (8 months).

Bertha Kerfin Woelfel, Anna Beda, Fred Kerfin are buried in Arlington Cemetery, in Elmhurst, IL.
So is Bertha's son, Harold Lesley Woelfel, who died by drowning while in the Navy in July, 1917.
