Land transactions in Jefferson County, NY

Ira was very active in buying and selling land in Jefferson County. Many of the people he dealt with lived nearby. The following deeds are listed in chronological order.

Feb. 26, 1829 - Ira and brother Hiram bought 55 acres from Jainus Bates and wife Sally of Hounsfield for $550.

Sep. 22, 1831 - Ira and brother Hiram bought land from Elisha Camp and wife Sophia of Sackets Harbor for $1300.

Feb. 25, 1832 - Ira and brother Hiram bought land from Jno. Baker and Roxana for $400.

Aug. 13, 1833 - Hiram of Hounsfield bought land from Bartholomew Hounsfield of Sheffield, England for $226.

Mar. 4, 1833 - Ira and Hiram bought land from Saml Holloway and Lucy for $1600.

Jan. 25, 1839 - Ira bought land from Elisha Camp and Sophia of Sackets Harbor.

Feb. 22, 1840 - Ira bought land from Josiah James and Elizabeth for $552.50.

Apr. 1, 1840 - Ira of Hounsfield and wife Mandana sold 22 acres to Henry Brown of Hounsfield, $500 quit claim in Hounsfield, bounded on east by A. Frazier's land, on south by Samuel Refsique(?), on west by George Young.

Apr. 21, 1842 - Ira bought land from Amos More and Harriet for $125.

Apr. 29, 1849? - Ira bought land from B. Maxson and Lucy in Hounsfield for $300.

Sep. 13, 1850 - Ira of Hounsfield bought land from D.H. Spicer and Elizabeth for $320. (land formerly owned by Elizabeth Spicer on northern margin of road leading from Sackets Harbor to Watertown)

Oct. 12, 1853 - Ira of Hounsfield bought land from E. Camp and Sophia of Sackets Harbor for $45.

Nov. 20, 1853 - Ira and wife Mandana of Hounsfield sold 2 acres to Eli Spicer of Hounsfield for $320. Land formerly owned by Eli Spicer, on the n. margin of road leading from Sacketts Harbor to Watertown.

Jul. 2, 1855 - Ira and wife Mandana of Hounsfield sold 13 acres to Benjamin Maxson of Hounsfield for $400.

Jun. 28, 1855 - Ira of Hounsfield bought 5 acres from Benjamin Maxson and wife Hannah J. of Hounsfield for $125. In corner of land formerly deeded to Ira Hall, marked by a stone marked "I.H." and a stone marked "B.M."

Mar. 1, 1855- Ira bought land from S. Bushnell.

Jul. 1, 1865 - Ira and wife Mandana of Hounsfield sold 8 acres to O. Dimick. Land beg. at stake at nw corner of lot formerly deeded to Samuel Brimmer by Elisha Camp and wife, to stake in sw corner of lot formerly owned by G? Potter, to stake in line running between lot formerly owned by G. Potter and lot owned by Ira Hall, w in line running betw. lot formerly owned by Samuel Brimmer and lot owned by Ira Hall. Gives privelege of crossing the wood lot adjoining land for purpose of "drawing off the wood and lumber." The wood lot shall hereafter be cleared and fenced to protect it from cattle.
